Doan’s contains Magnesium Salicylate tetrahydrate (580 mg per caplet), an over-the-counter nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID).

Magnesium salicylate works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, substances in the body involved in pain signaling.

  • This helps provide temporary relief of minor aches and pains.
  • It may be used for the temporary relief of muscular aches and backache.


Standard Doan’s formulations are caffeine free—the primary mechanism is antiinflammatory pain relief from the NSAID itself.
